The Serbian midfielder was an integral figure at Stamford Bridge, helping them to two Premier League titles in three season but was deemed surplus to requirements following the arrival of Tiemoue Bakayoko to Chelsea.



Annnoucing the arrival of Matic, United wrote on the club’s official website: ‘Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea on a three-year contract, with an option to extend for a further year.’
Speaking about the move, Jose Mourinho said: “Nemanja is a Manchester United player and a Jose Mourinho player. He represents everything we want in a footballer; loyalty, consistency, ambition, team player.

I would like to thank him for his desire to join us because without that, it would be impossible to have him here. I am sure our players and supporters will love him. A big welcome to our new number 31.”


A delighted Nemanja Matic said after completing his dream move: “I am delighted to have joined Manchester United. To work with Jose Mourinho once again was an opportunity I couldn’t turn down.
“I have enjoyed my time at Chelsea and would like to thank the club and the fans for their support. I cannot wait to meet my new team-mates and to start training with them.
“This is a very exciting time for the club and I am looking forward to playing my part in creating more history for this great club.”

Antonio Conte Pleased With Eden Hazard’s Performance As A Striker

Antonio Conte has admitted that he has been impressed by Eden Hazard’s performances since moving into a more central-attacking position. Eden Hazard has featured alongside Alvaro Morata as the Blues’ most advanced players of late, Hazard has three goals and two assists from his adjusted role, as well as bagging the Man of the Match award in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Saturday afternoon, leaving boss Conte particularly pleased. “The start of this season was full of trouble with Eden because he had an injury with the national team and we started the season without him,” he told reporters. “Now I think Eden is in really good form and I think he likes to play as a striker. There is a good link with Alvaro and for me also it’s a great opportunity to play with two different systems. It’s important we don’t lose our identity in both cases.”
